Molycop Canada staff volunteer in support of children’s nutrition

Staff in Canada have volunteered to help pack and deliver backpacks filled with easy-to-prepare food for students who lack access to the nutrition they need.

Key Facts

  • Molycop Canada donates $7000 every year to Kamloops Food Bank’s Starfish Backpack Program.
  • The program provides healthy meals to local students and helps overcome food insecurity.
  • Every year Molycop employees volunteer to pack and deliver wholesome food to students in an effort to promote their health and wellbeing.
Molycop employees have come together once again to provide disadvantaged children with nutritious school meals.

Molycop has partnered with the Kamloops Food Bank’s Starfish Backpack Program in Canada to pack and deliver food bags to schools around town, ensuring children receive the nutrition they need for success. This is a commitment Molycop makes to the local community twice yearly.

Molycop matched the volunteering drive with a $7000 donation in 2024/2025 to fund food for 10 students to take home on the weekends.

The Starfish Backpack Program, initiated in 2016 by the Rotary Club of Kamloops, is a collaborative effort involving the Kamloops Food Bank, School District 73 (SD73), Rotary, and numerous local businesses, including and volunteers. Molycop has been a sponsor of the program since 2022.

How the program works

Every week volunteers at the Kamloops Food Bank fill backpacks with easy-to-prepare, nutritious items. On Friday mornings these backpacks are delivered to participating schools within SD73, ensuring that children have sufficient food for the weekend.

The program's primary goal is to ensure that school-aged children receive wholesome food that contributes to their overall health and wellbeing.

Proper nutrition is linked to better academic performance and social interactions. By addressing hunger, the program helps students focus on their studies and participate more fully in school activities.

Thanks to the Molycop Canada team
