- Tell me who you are and what you do at Molycop?
Vice President of Global Sustainability with more than 35 years of experience in the manufacturing, industrial and mining sectors, working in a variety of roles across Engineering, Product Development, Operations, Marketing and Business Development.
- This is a completely new role at Molycop, why do you think Molycop created this role?
Yes, Momentum on climate change and decarbonization action has been steadily building over recent years, it has significantly accelerated following the recent COP26 UN climate conference hosted in Scotland. We believe that without a coherent strategy and demonstrated progress in decarbonization and social contribution, our market offer and competitive position will be diminished. Molycop has an opportunity to take a leading market position on sustainability and ESG, to support this objective we have created a senior position to drive our agenda.
- Tell me what interests you most about this role?
I have always been interested in the protection of the environment, technology, and new product development. This is an opportunity to bridge engineering, social and environmental sciences to look at our future through a different lens and be part of the solutions.
- Does Molycop have a sustainability program?
Molycop has always been proactive around its sustainability efforts and has been very engaged with research projects that deliver on recycling and reduction in waste. We now have an opportunity to bring together all of the great work that has been undertaken and drives of sustainability agenda with greater effectiveness and collaboration.
- What sustainability challenges does Molycop face?
Sustainability is a challenge for all of us whether it be climate change, water management, energy conservation or social and community development. Decarbonisation is key to our future with our carbon footprinting work underway and the development of a pathway to net-zero, including emission reduction targets.
- What are Molycop’s key sustainability metrics?
There are a series of metrics ranging from operational excellence initiatives, best practice forums, waste management, technology development, social and community engagement
- How does Molycop become a greener company?
The long-term success of Molycop requires the integration of sustainability into all aspects of our business. Sustainability means that we do things efficiently and responsibly in terms of the environment, people and the economy. It is Molycop’s goal to make a positive contribution to society and create lasting benefits for stakeholders in a manner that is responsible, transparent, and respectful to the rights of all. Sustainability must be embedded in the day-to-day things we do with every employee having a role to play and becoming part of the solution.
