Key Facts

  • As Business Development Manager in Indonesia, Zai is the primary point of contact for customers seeking information about Molycop’s products and services.
  • Foremost among her goals is to expand the market for Molycop’s products beyond South-east Asia to encompass the broader Asian region.

How did you first get started in the mining industry?

I worked as a junior metallurgist in Indonesian gold mining company Martabe Agincourt Resources, then moved to Sumatera Copper Gold as a metallurgist. I also have five years’ experience as Technical Sales Representative for Solvay serving PT Freeport Indonesia’s flotation operation in Papua.

What led you to join Molycop?

I have found excellent opportunities to develop my metallurgical skills not only in downstream processes such as leaching and flotation but also in upstream operations including comminution and grinding. Molycop consistently provides avenues for growth in commercial and business development, which has supported my self-development.

What does a typical day look like for you in your role?

I review technical reports and conduct data analysis, as well as look at the development of new market segments in Indonesia and South-east Asia through meetings with potential customers, industry associations and business partners.

What are your core responsibilities as a Business Development Manager?

To initiate and undertake market research and develop new product segments including, but not limited to, high chrome grinding media, fasteners, chemicals, locomotive wheels and Molycop digital products.

How do you support Molycop’s customers day-to-day?

I serve as the primary point of contact for customers in Indonesia seeking information about Molycop’s products and services.

What are some of the challenges and opportunities you see in the region?

Molycop’s strategic decision to promote its engagement with South-east Asia and the wider Asian region is a significant opportunity for us. We are focused on expanding our network by establishing individual connections with all the key operators in the region.

What are your personal or professional goals and ambitions?

To expand the market for Molycop’s products beyond South-east Asia to encompass the broader Asian region, including not only high chrome and forged grinding media, but also fasteners, chemicals, locomotive wheels and Molycop digital products.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

As a Business Development Manager, no day is monotonous – engaging with new contacts and acquiring new knowledge is a constant. Conducting thorough research enhances my understanding and reduces uncertainty, making each day feel both productive and satisfying.

Is there a recent win, project, or milestone you’re particularly proud of?

We’re developing a mineral processing laboratory capable of accommodating customers’ needs across crushing, grinding, leaching, flotation, ball mill abrasion testing and work index analysis.
